Abstract
Maternal and child health care (MCH) is a critical aspect of sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, aiming to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all. This study explored MCH care in Municipality of Maco, assessing its effectiveness and identifying key factors that contribute to sustainable and efficient health service delivery at the grassroots level. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study examined community-based interventions. Quantitative results indicated that Maco has a very low occurrence of newborn and maternal mortality. The analysis of the relationship between maternal and child health care services and maternal and child health care status yielded significant findings, indicating a strong negative correlation - as the quality and accessibility of maternal and child health care services increased, the maternal and child health care status improved significantly. Qualitative results emphasized essential themes that shaped the implementation of MCH program in the Barangays, to wit: policy and framework development, community-based health care services, maternal and child health care services, health education and awareness, and collaboration with stakeholders. Upon analysis of the quantitative and qualitative data, the community-based interventions have decreased maternal and child mortality in the local level. The study highlighted the importance of enhancing the health care services per Barangay to improve health outcomes. There’s a need for continued health investment especially in GIDA Barangays. By bridging gaps in healthcare delivery, this study contributes to the ongoing efforts to achieve SDG 3 at the local level, ultimately improving maternal and child health outcomes in barangay settings.
