Abstract

This study examined the extent to which current student services practices align with the requirements of a multiversity setting and sought to develop a conceptual framework to enhance student services in contemporary higher education institutions. Anchored on Snyder’s Hope Theory and the emerging concept of the multiversity, the study recognized the need for student support systems that are responsive, inclusive, technology-enabled, and capable of addressing the diverse needs of a borderless student population. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study employed quantitative-descriptive and qualitative techniques. Data were gathered from administrators, faculty members, staff, and students through a structured questionnaire and self-evaluation reflections. Stratified sampling was utilized to ensure representation from the different respondent groups. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests to assess differences between existing student services and those expected in a multiversity environment, while qualitative responses were examined through thematic analysis. The findings revealed that respondents generally rated both the existing and expected student services to a great extent. However, significant differences were consistently observed between implemented services and the expectations associated with a multiversity setting. Areas identified for improvement included student services operations, specialist support and advice, counseling and personal development programs, training workshops, mental health services, emergency response mechanisms, academic support systems, student engagement initiatives, community support services, and wellness-related programs. The results indicated that while current student services are functioning effectively, they remain insufficient to address the broader, more dynamic requirements of a multiversity environment. The qualitative findings further emphasized the need for innovation, accessibility, flexibility, technology integration, and stronger support mechanisms that promote student well-being, engagement, and success. Based on the findings, the study proposed a conceptual framework for creative and responsive student services designed to meet the evolving demands of higher education in a multiversity context. The study concluded that existing student services are not fully congruent with multiversity practices and that continuous enhancement, strategic planning, and creative service delivery are necessary to bridge the gap between current implementation and future expectations. The proposed framework may serve as a guide for higher education institutions seeking to transform student services and improve student outcomes in an increasingly global and interconnected educational landscape.
