Abstract

Fire remains a significant threat to both human life and property assets, often built through years of dedication, hard work, and sacrifice. Commonly triggered by carelessness or negligence, fire incidents can lead to severe consequences, including loss of life, injuries, and extensive property damage. Such damages are often beyond repair, highlighting the urgent need for proactive preventive measures. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of fire prevention and safety seminars conducted in Barangay Bahay Toro, Project 8, Quezon City. Specifically, it aims to assess how these educational initiatives enhance community awareness, strengthen emergency preparedness, and mitigate the frequency and impact of fire-related incidents. This research employs a quantitative correlational design to assess the effectiveness of fire prevention and safety seminars conducted in Barangay Bahay Toro, Project 8, Quezon City. It utilizes purposive sampling—also known as judgmental sampling—where participants are deliberately selected based on the researchers’ informed judgment of their relevance and ability to provide valuable insights aligned with the study’s objectives. The sample consists of individuals considered most knowledgeable or directly involved in fire safety initiatives within the community. Data collection was conducted through direct interaction, with the researchers personally approaching residents of Barangay Bahay Toro to encourage participation and ensure the reliability and accuracy of the information obtained. The findings reveal that the fire prevention and safety seminars conducted in Barangay Bahay Toro, Project 8, Quezon City, were perceived as highly effective across all evaluated dimensions. Program implementation obtained a weighted mean score of 3.71, interpreted as Very Effective, indicating that seminar activities were well-organized and effectively delivered. The evaluation of equipment used during the seminars yielded a weighted mean of 3.59 (Very Effective), suggesting that the tools and resources provided were adequate, functional, and supportive of the program’s objectives. The overall effectiveness of the seminars was likewise recorded as a weighted mean of 3.71, confirming their significant role in enhancing fire safety awareness, knowledge, and preparedness within the community. Notably, community satisfaction achieved the highest weighted mean score of 3.76, reflecting strong participant approval and a clear acknowledgment of the seminars’ relevance and value in promoting public safety. Based on the findings of this study, the following actions are recommended to strengthen fire prevention and safety in Barangay Bahay Toro, Project 8, Quezon City: Adopt Fire-Resistant Construction Materials – Barangay officials and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) should promote the use of fire-resistant materials, particularly in high-risk areas, to reduce property damage and improve community safety. Ensure Proper Storage of Flammable Materials – Gasoline, chemicals, and other flammable substances should be stored securely in well-ventilated locations away from heat sources to prevent accidental ignition. Increase Community Participation – Residents should be encouraged to attend fire prevention and safety seminars to strengthen their awareness, preparedness, and response skills. Hold Regular Fire Safety Forums – Periodic forums should be organized to maintain public awareness, promote shared responsibility, and reinforce preventive practices. Enforce Fire Safety Regulations Rigorously – Authorities should strictly implement fire safety laws, addressing common causes such as faulty wiring, negligence, and arson. Pursue Further Research – Future studies should use qualitative and longitudinal approaches to better understand behavioral and institutional factors affecting program effectiveness and track long-term outcomes. Broaden the Study’s Scope – Conduct similar research in other high-risk zones within Barangay Bahay Toro to identify broader challenges and create more targeted interventions.
