Abstract

Street crimes encompass unlawful and often violent acts occurring in public spaces, posing significant threats to community safety. Effective response to such crimes requires coordinated law enforcement tactics, proactive community engagement, and preventive strategies. This study assesses how personnel of Police Station 4 in Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City respond to street crime, focusing on enforcement activities and collaboration with local stakeholders. A quantitative descriptive design is employed, with purposive sampling used to select fifty respondents comprising police officers, barangay officials, and residents. A structured survey questionnaire is administered to evaluate perceptions of enforcement effectiveness, community engagement, and operational challenges. Data collection follows a systematic distribution and retrieval process to ensure high response quality, and results are analyzed using descriptive statistics. The demographic profile indicated balanced representation across age, sex, length of service, and residency. Findings revealed that respondents “Strongly Agreed” on the effectiveness of enforcement measures and community engagement initiatives by Police Station 4. The most frequently encountered problem was the lack of CCTV cameras and adequate street lighting, which hindered timely police response. Proposed measures included increasing police visibility through intensified patrols and presence in high_crime areas, particularly during peak hours. The study confirmed that robust enforcement and active community collaboration contributed to positive perceptions of police response to street crime. However, infrastructural deficiencies such as insufficient lighting and surveillance systems limited operational effectiveness. As a result, enhancing environmental supports—through installation of CCTV cameras, improved lighting, and expanded patrols—was recommended to strengthen overall response capacity and public safety in Barangay Bagbag.
