Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Neighborhood Watch Program (NWP) in Barangay Bagong Silang, Phase 10, Caloocan City. It aims to evaluate the program’s effectiveness in enhancing community safety, promoting cooperation among residents, and addressing local security challenges. The research examines the structure, objectives, and activities of the NWP and its impact on crime prevention, public awareness, and community engagement. By employing qualitative methods such as interviews with barangay officials, residents, and law enforcement personnel, the study identifies both strengths and areas for improvement in the current implementation of the program. The study utilized a qualitative research design. Respondents included barangay officials, residents, and local law enforcement officers selected through purposive sampling. Interviews and surveys were conducted using validated instruments to gather data. The administration, retrieval, and statistical treatment of the data ensured accurate analysis. The research focused on collecting insights into the awareness, participation, and perceptions of the Neighborhood Watch Program within the community. The results revealed that the Neighborhood Watch Program contributed to a reduction in minor crimes and an increased sense of safety among residents. Data also indicated moderate to high levels of awareness regarding the program, with many respondents expressing support for its continuation. However, challenges such as insufficient resources, inconsistent resident participation, and communication gaps were identified. These factors limited the overall effectiveness of the program. Recommendations include improving training for volunteers, enhancing resource allocation, and developing strategies to boost community involvement and engagement. The study concluded that while the Neighborhood Watch Program has had a positive impact on crime deterrence and community cohesion, several limitations hinder its full potential. Residents and law enforcement agencies are encouraged to collaborate in strengthening the initiative through better outreach, resource support, and continuous training. These efforts are essential for ensuring the program’s long-term sustainability and effectiveness in promoting a safer and more unified barangay.
