Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of technology in police criminal investigations in Bagumbong 171, Caloocan City. As law enforcement agencies face increasing demands for efficient crime-solving methods, the integration of technology has become a vital component in enhancing investigative procedures. This research aims to assess the perceived effectiveness of technological tools in police investigations, identify the challenges encountered in their implementation, and propose solutions to improve the system. Respondents included 50 individuals: 30 residents, 15 police officers, and 5 community leaders. A descriptive research design was employed, using purposive sampling to select respondents with relevant experience or involvement in police investigations. Structured survey questionnaires were used to collect data on the effectiveness of technology and the challenges related to its application in law enforcement. The questionnaires were distributed, retrieved, and validated by subject experts to ensure content reliability and accuracy. Findings indicated that technology was perceived as moderately effective in enhancing police investigations. The highest-rated responses revealed that technology contributed most to improving data collection (weighted mean = 3.24), access to crucial information (3.13), and operational efficiency and productivity (3.13). The most frequently identified barrier was slow internet connectivity (13.84%), while the most recommended solution was fostering peer learning and inter-agency collaboration (14.35%). The study concludes that while technology enhances several aspects of police investigative work, challenges such as limited infrastructure and connectivity hinder its full potential. It is recommended that the Philippine National Police conduct regular training in digital forensics and cybercrime investigation. The Local Government Unit of Caloocan City should prioritize investment in surveillance technology, digital databases, and internet infrastructure. Additionally, community involvement through digital crime prevention platforms should be encouraged. Further research is suggested to explore the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain into criminal justice processes.
