Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of traffic congestion on multiple dimensions of life along Bagumbong Road, Barangay 171, Caloocan City. It specifically investigates the social, economic, environmental, and psychological effects of traffic congestion as perceived by various stakeholders. The research collects perspectives from a diverse group of respondents, including traffic enforcers, commuters, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and private vehicle owners. The study utilizes a descriptive research method to systematically collect detailed information on the perceptions of different stakeholders concerning the impacts of traffic congestion along Bagumbong Road. The sample consisted of 50 participants, evenly distributed among five groups: ten traffic enforcers, ten commuters, ten entrepreneurs, ten community leaders, and ten private vehicle owners. The data reveal key demographic and behavioral characteristics of the respondents. Nearly half (46%) are aged 41 or older, and 70% are male. Additionally, 46% have resided in Barangay 171, Bagumbong, for one to ten years. When it comes to addressing traffic congestion, respondents showed strong support for various initiatives. The use of alternative fuel vehicles received a mean score of 3.26, while smart growth strategies and urban planning scored 3.48. Smart traffic signals prioritizing emergency vehicles were favored with a mean score of 3.56. The most endorsed measure was the visible presence of police and traffic enforcers in high-traffic areas, with a mean score of 3.92, indicating it as a highly recommended solution. These results reflect robust community backing for technological and infrastructural efforts to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The findings provide valuable insights into the community’s perceptions of traffic congestion and the interventions required to alleviate the problem along Bagumbong Road, Barangay 171. The strong support for increased police and traffic enforcer presence underscores the community’s demand for more effective law enforcement to curb traffic violations and improve congestion management.
