Abstract

This study explores the impact of enhancing surveillance systems in an urban community setting, specifically in Police Sub-Station 13, Phase 7, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. It focuses on how the integration of innovative surveillance technology contributes to crime prevention and the overall improvement of public safety. Furthermore, this study investigates community concerns related to data privacy and the ethical implementation of such systems. This study utilizes a descriptive quantitative research design and employs purposive sampling in selecting respondents. The researchers aim to examine public safety strategies through innovative surveillance systems by evaluating aspects such as strategic location, integration with other technologies, data protection and privacy, and community engagement. The respondents include 25 residents and 25 law enforcers from Barangay 176, totaling 50 participants. Survey questionnaires were distributed with approval from the Dean’s Office and a formal request was submitted to the Station Commander for the conduct of the study. The data revealed that the majority of respondents were aged 26 to 33 years old, comprising 46% of the sample. Most of the participants were male, accounting for 60%, and 50% were single. In terms of educational attainment, college graduates represented the highest proportion, making up 54% of the respondents. The findings indicated the importance of strengthening community-police relations, especially among the youth, to promote responsible citizenship and enhance responsiveness to public safety issues. Local government units are encouraged to improve emergency response systems, adopt advanced communication technologies, and invest in modern facilities that support surveillance innovation. Civil rights organizations and public safety advocates are urged to support policies that maintain a balance between security and individual privacy. Law enforcement agencies should enhance transparency by regularly releasing data on policing practices and adopting emerging technologies for more efficient operations. Future researchers are encouraged to explore the integration of artificial intelligence, drones, and smart surveillance systems in crime reduction while addressing potential privacy concerns.
