Abstract

In Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, rapid urbanization and a growing number of vehicles have contributed to an increase in traffic-related issues, including road rage. Road rage—characterized by aggressive driving behaviors such as tailgating, erratic lane changes, verbal confrontations, and even physical altercations—poses significant risks to both drivers and pedestrians. The area's narrow, congested streets, combined with inadequate traffic management, further exacerbate these problems, creating a high-stress environment for commuters. This study aimed to determine the significance of traffic discipline in mitigating road rage incidents in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a descriptive research design to examine variables related to demographics, such as age, gender, and socioeconomic status. This method involves the identification of clearly defined variables and hypotheses prior to data collection. A purposive sampling technique was utilized to select participants who had been directly involved in or affected by road rage incidents. The respondents included fifteen commuters, fifteen residents, ten drivers, and ten traffic enforcers from Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. The study found that the majority of respondents were aged 46 and above, male, married, and employed—suggesting that these groups may be more engaged with the issue due to greater experience, stability, or personal concern. In contrast, younger individuals, females, the unemployed, and those who were separated or widowed showed lower participation rates. Respondents strongly agreed that traffic discipline has a positive impact on road rage incidents in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, citing improvements in order, safety, driver behavior, and law enforcement. Poor infrastructure was identified as the primary challenge in promoting compliance with traffic rules, with 82% of participants recognizing it as a major concern. The study recommends stricter law enforcement, infrastructure development, and public awareness initiatives to enhance traffic discipline and reduce road rage incidents. In response to the rising number of road rage incidents and traffic-related accidents in Barangay 176, a reoriented program was launched to strengthen road safety education, promote community discipline, and enhance collaboration between law enforcement and the public.
