Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of fire extinguisher training programs in improving fire safety and minimizing the impact of fire incidents. Unexpected fires can occur at any time, making it essential for individuals to be prepared and knowledgeable about how to respond. Fire extinguisher training programs play a crucial role in strengthening fire response strategies by equipping individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to act promptly during emergencies. The researchers employed surveys and questionnaires to gather data on participants’ understanding and practices related to fire safety. The study involved 60 respondents, including 30 residents, 20 local government officials, and 10 fire safety personnel from Barangay Pasong Tamo, selected through stratified random sampling. A pre-test of the questionnaire was conducted with 10 residents from the same barangay to ensure its validity and clarity. The study aimed to assess fire response strategies in the areas of practice and simulation, evaluation and assessment, and maintenance awareness. The findings showed that most respondents were male, aged 51 and above, and had been residing in Barangay Pasong Tamo for over 10 years. Respondents strongly agreed on the effectiveness of the fire extinguisher training program in improving fire response in terms of practice and simulation, evaluation and assessment, and maintenance awareness. However, a key issue identified was the lack of understanding among residents regarding the appropriate use of different types of fire extinguishers. The study recommends the implementation of mandatory fire training programs for all residents, with content delivered in Filipino and other local languages to ensure accessibility and understanding. The evaluation of the training program revealed high levels of agreement in all areas: Practice and Simulation received a weighted mean of 3.49, Evaluation and Assessment scored 3.47, and Maintenance Awareness received 3.50—all interpreted as “Strongly Agree.” These results emphasize the importance of ongoing, accessible, and context-specific training to enhance fire response strategies in communities.
