Abstract

Public safety plays a vital role in fostering a secure and cohesive community. The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) of Quezon City implements various initiatives to uphold public order and promote road safety, particularly in Barangay Pasong Tamo. This study evaluates the POSO Road Safety Awareness Program in terms of civic education, community involvement, and interagency collaboration. It also identifies the challenges faced by POSO in implementing the program and proposes potential interventions to improve the effectiveness of its road safety initiatives. The study utilized a descriptive research design and purposive sampling method. A total of 50 participants, composed of 40 road users and 10 POSO officials from Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City, were selected based on their familiarity with road safety and POSO-led initiatives. Data were collected through a structured survey questionnaire that measured perceptions regarding the components and outcomes of the Road Safety Awareness Program. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents were male (84%), aged 18 to 25 years old (30%), and had completed high school or vocational education (26%). Among the program components, interagency collaboration received the highest weighted average score of 3.28, interpreted as "strongly agree." The most pressing challenge identified was the reluctance of individuals to comply with traffic regulations (46%). To improve the program, the most recommended intervention was the use of social media and online platforms to reach a broader audience (52%). The results suggest that while the POSO Road Safety Awareness Program is generally effective, particularly in terms of interagency coordination, further efforts are needed to address public compliance and engagement. Strengthening collaboration with stakeholders, increasing community-based education initiatives, and incorporating modern communication tools such as social media are essential to enhance the program’s reach and sustainability. Future studies are encouraged to explore innovative approaches for promoting lasting behavioral change in road safety practices.
