Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the "write wheel" on the writing skills of Grade 5 students during class discussions. Writing is a crucial skill for students, as it helps enhance their grammar, vocabulary, spelling, sentence construction, and persuasiveness. According to Pawliczak et al. (2021), participating in creative writing activities is one of the most effective ways to improve writing skills. This study specifically investigates how the "write wheel" affects these areas of writing proficiency. The study used a quantitative method with a correlational design. Forty fifth-grade students from Urduja Elementary School were selected as participants through purposive sampling. A survey questionnaire served as the primary instrument for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using various statistical tools, including percentages, ranking, weighted means, the Likert scale, and z-tests. The results indicated that the "write wheel" was highly effective in improving writing skills in several areas, including grammar, vocabulary, spelling, sentence construction, and persuasiveness. The analysis revealed a statistically significant improvement in scores from the pre-test to the post-test, with a p-value of less than 0.00001. This suggests that the "write wheel" has a positive impact on students' writing performance. The study aligns with the Sensory Stimulation Theory, which suggests that learning is enhanced when multiple senses are engaged. The "write wheel" activates the sense of touch, which improves concentration, motor coordination, and cognitive processing during writing tasks (Kwakye et al., 2021). Both teachers and students benefit from this tool, as it encourages creativity, makes writing activities more interactive, and enhances the overall learning experience. Recommendations include: 1. Incorporating the "write wheel" into classroom activities to improve students' writing skills. 2. Expanding its use to other grade levels to assess its broader applicability. 3. Conducting further studies to explore its long-term effects on writing proficiency. By integrating innovative tools like the "write wheel, " educators can create a more engaging and effective learning environment, ultimately enhancing students' academic success.
