Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of the "Write Wheel" on the writing skills of Grade 5 students during classroom discussions. Writing is a foundational academic skill that supports the development of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, sentence construction, and persuasiveness. According to Pawliczak et al. (2021), creative writing activities are among the most effective strategies for enhancing writing proficiency. This study focuses on how the "Write Wheel, " a tactile and interactive learning tool, contributes to improvements in key areas of writing performance. A quantitative approach using a correlational research design was employed. The respondents consisted of 40 Grade 5 students from Urduja Elementary School, selected through purposive sampling. A survey questionnaire served as the main instrument for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using statistical tools, including percentage, ranking, weighted mean, Likert scale, and z-test, to measure the effectiveness of the "Write Wheel" on the targeted writing components. The findings indicated that the "Write Wheel" significantly enhanced writing performance in the areas of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, sentence construction, and persuasiveness. Statistical analysis showed a notable improvement between the pre-test and post-test scores, with a p-value of < 0.00001, demonstrating a statistically significant impact. These results confirm the effectiveness of the "Write Wheel" in improving students’ overall writing abilities. This study supports the Sensory Stimulation Theory, which suggests that learning is more effective when multiple senses are engaged. The "Write Wheel" engages the sense of touch, thereby improving concentration, motor coordination, and cognitive processing during writing tasks (Kwakye et al., 2021). Both teachers and students benefit from using this tool, as it makes writing more engaging, interactive, and effective. The study recommends integrating the "Write Wheel" into regular classroom instruction, extending its application to other grade levels, and conducting further research to examine its long-term effects on writing proficiency. By adopting innovative tools like the "Write Wheel, " educators can foster more dynamic learning environments and contribute to students’ academic growth.
