Abstract

This study focused on determining the effectiveness of anti-illegal drug abuse programs implemented in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City. It includes the background of the study, a review of related literature and studies, the theoretical and conceptual frameworks, the statement of the problem, assumptions of the study, the scope and delimitations, the significance of the study, and the definition of key terms. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, using purposive sampling to select 40 community members and 10 barangay officials as respondents. The assessment focused on three key areas: prevention strategies (including education campaigns and community outreach), enforcement strategies (such as intelligence operations, patrols, and surveillance), and partnership strategies (involving collaboration with various sectors and livelihood initiatives). Data were gathered using structured questionnaires and analyzed using statistical tools to determine perceived effectiveness. The majority of respondents (80%) were residents of Barangay Baesa, 58% were male, 14% were aged 28, and 30% were college graduates. Findings showed that the community generally viewed the anti-drug programs as highly effective. However, 32 respondents reported a lack of awareness regarding the roles and objectives of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC). The study also identified the need for more inclusive scheduling to accommodate groups such as students and working individuals. Suggestions included outreach opportunities for criminology students to gain experience in prevention, counseling, and rehabilitation efforts. While the current anti-illegal drug strategies in Barangay Baesa yielded positive outcomes, the study highlights the importance of improving public awareness of BADAC’s functions and promoting broader community involvement. Recommendations include launching community-based initiatives such as youth clubs and neighborhood watch groups to strengthen grassroots engagement. Schools and academic institutions are encouraged to partner with the barangay to raise awareness and build long-term anti-drug advocacy. These enhancements aim to ensure greater program sustainability, effectiveness, and a stronger sense of community ownership.
