Abstract

The increasing incidence of children in conflict with the law remains a pressing concern with profound social and individual repercussions. This study investigated the effectiveness of Barangay intervention programs in mitigating juvenile delinquency by focusing on preventive and rehabilitative strategies rather than punitive measures. Key components of these programs include educational support, recreational activities, and mentorship initiatives. using a descriptive research design and convenience sampling, data were collected from a sample comprising ten police officers, ten barangay officials, and thirty residents of Barangay Bignay, Valenzuela City. This section presents the research methodology applied in the study, detailing the research design, target respondents, sampling methods, data collection instruments, questionnaire development and validation, procedures for administering and retrieving questionnaires, and techniques for statistical data analysis. The study employed a descriptive quantitative research design, which involves the systematic gathering and examination of numerical data to characterize a particular population or phenomenon. This approach facilitates the identification and analysis of problems by testing hypotheses through measurable variables, using statistical tools to interpret the results. The results are systematically presented following the sequence of research questions outlined in Chapter 3, incorporating both tabular data and detailed textual analysis to enhance the interpretation of the findings. The overall weighted mean for problem-solving policing was 3.60, indicating a strong agreement among respondents. Similarly, community engagement scored a weighted mean of 3.49, and proactive policing received 3.46, both reflecting strong agreement as well. A critical challenge identified in the implementation of the Barangay intervention program for reducing children in conflict with the law (CICL) is the insufficiency of current policies to adequately address prevalent mental health and substance abuse issues among delinquent youth—factors that significantly contribute to criminal behavior. A comprehensive analysis of case studies and interviews with program coordinators and participants, The findings underscore the essential role of community engagement in addressing juvenile delinquency. The findings revealed that community-based intervention programs serve as a promising framework for crime prevention by fostering adolescents’ holistic well-being, facilitating their successful reintegration into society, and ultimately contributing to the reduction of youth crime rates.
