Abstract

This study assessed the crime prevention strategies employed by barangay police in Barangay 176‑A, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. Barangay 176‑A was created in August 2024 following the division of the former Barangay 176 into six barangays. As one of the most populous and geographically large barangays in the Philippines, Bagong Silang faces unique public safety challenges. This research examined how barangay police leverage community partnerships, interagency collaboration, and technology to prevent crime and maintain peace and order. This study used a descriptive research design. Purposive sampling was applied to select one hundred respondents: ten police personnel, thirty barangay police officers, and sixty community residents. A structured questionnaire—validated by subject‑matter experts—was administered face‑to‑face. Collected data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions to profile respondent demographics and to identify perceived strengths and gaps in current crime prevention measures. Most respondents were aged 26 to 33, predominantly male, and had four to six years of service. Respondents strongly agreed that crime prevention was effective through community partnerships, collaboration with law enforcement agencies, and the use of technology such as CCTV and mobile devices. Intelligence sharing, regular communication, and active community involvement were also identified as key strategies for ensuring safety and reducing crime. Findings highlighted that rationalized patrol planning, technology deployment, and stakeholder collaboration contributed to improved security in Barangay 176‑A. As a result, a comprehensive action plan was developed to enhance patrol coverage during off‑peak hours, strengthen barangay‑level communication channels, and expand community engagement through neighborhood watch programs. The proposed interventions aimed to address identified gaps and further reduce crime in the area.
