Abstract

This study examined the level of computer accessibility and its influence on academic literacy among Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. Computer access plays a vital role in enhancing students' digital skills, study habits, and critical thinking. However, many students face challenges in accessing computers, which may negatively affect their academic performance. By addressing these issues, The study aimed to inform students and promote the development of essential digital competencies and higher-order thinking skills. This study examines the level of computer accessibility and its effect on the academic literacy of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. It focuses on how computer access influences students’ computer literacy, study habits, and critical thinking skills. using an exploratory research design, the study involved 222 students selected through cluster sampling. Data were gathered through a validated survey questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean. The findings indicate that computer accessibility significantly contributes to enhanced educational outcomes by improving students’ use of digital tools, development of digital skills, and overall academic literacy. This study examines students’ personal use of computers and their role in enhancing their knowledge and academic literacy. It highlights how computer accessibility supports academic performance, technological proficiency, and effective use of digital tools. As computers are integral to modern learning, students must develop the skills necessary to access and evaluate digital information. Through consistent use of computers and other digital devices, students can strengthen their academic literacy by efficiently gathering information from various online platforms and credible digital sources. This study explores students' personal use of computers and how computer accessibility contributes to the development of academic literacy. It emphasizes that access to technology enhances students’ academic performance, technological proficiency, and ability to use digital tools effectively. With sufficient knowledge in navigating digital platforms, students can access, evaluate, and apply information from various online sources. This improved digital competence supports their academic growth and strengthens their overall learning experience.
