Abstract

In today’s era, loud noises, pollution, and thermal discomfort are prevalent concerns in urban environments. Incorporating curved architecture within a garden café setting offers potential environmental benefits, including ecosystem support and improved acoustic conditions. The proposed curved architectural design at Block 1 Lot 1, Saranay Road, Caloocan City, is intended to diffuse sound waves, reduce echoes, and enhance overall ambiance and comfort within the space. This study employed a quantitative-descriptive research design, using purposive sampling to assess the acceptability of a curved architecture concept for a garden café at the specified location. A structured survey questionnaire was used to evaluate the design in terms of materials used, floor plan and layout, architectural features and design, aesthetic appeal, and presentation. A t-test was conducted to compare the responses between two groups of professionals: civil engineers and landscape architects. The findings indicated that the curved architecture concept was rated as “Acceptable” by both respondent groups across all evaluated categories. Civil engineers gave an overall mean rating of 3.12 with a variance of 0.006, while landscape architects rated it 2.86 with a variance of 0.035. Both groups had a significance level (alpha) of 0.05, a t-critical value of 1.971, and a t-computed value of 2.845. Since the t-computed exceeded the t-critical, the hypothesis was rejected. Therefore, there was no significant difference between the assessments of the two groups. To further improve the proposed design, respondents recommended careful selection of materials, ensuring they are suitable for curved structures while remaining cost-effective and practical. Additionally, emphasis was placed on finalizing the floor plan prior to implementation, with particular attention to accurate measurements and the proper placement of sections and units. These suggestions aim to enhance both the functionality and aesthetic value of the proposed architectural concept.
