Abstract
This study investigated the key motivational factors that influence tourists to engage in camping and outdoor leisure activities at Mahogany Campsite in Rodriguez, Rizal. As outdoor recreation gains popularity in response to urban stress and the need for nature-based experiences, understanding tourist motivation becomes essential for effective destination planning and management. The research employed a quantitative approach using a structured survey administered to 100 tourists who have visited the campsite between March and June 2025. Results revealed that the primary motivations for visiting Mahogany Campsite are relaxation, escape from routine, appreciation of nature, and opportunities for social bonding. Secondary motivations include adventure-seeking and interest in wellness-related activities such as mindfulness and digital detox. Notably, the study finds a strong correlation between nature appreciation and mental well-being, highlighting the role of green spaces in enhancing visitor satisfaction. Furthermore, younger tourists (aged 18–30) exhibit higher motivation for social interaction and adventure, while older tourists prioritize peace and solitude. By identifying the underlying drivers of camping tourism at Mahogany Campsite, this study contributes to the broader understanding of nature-based tourism behavior in the Philippines. The insights gained can assist local tourism authorities and campsite operators in designing meaningful, engaging, and sustainable outdoor experiences through a comprehensive development plan that meets the evolving needs of tourists.
