Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess liability management in tourism at MJ Land Resort located in Quezon City. This study focused on guest safety as well as the resort's compliance to regulations that govern its operations such as food safety, proper maintenance of the facility, competency of employees and guest obligations so as to assess operations challenges. The study used a descriptive research design with quantitative methods for gathering data from multiple stakeholders, as well as from guests and employees. Data were collected via a structured four-point Likert scale questionnaire that was verified by experts in hospitality and safety. A convenience sample was used to choose participants, who included thirty individuals (fifteen guests and fifteen employees) with equal representation from both groups. Statistics used for analysing participant demographic profiles included percentages and distributions; while weighted means were calculated to assist with the interpretation of what number of liability standards were being met. The study found most respondents were male young adults (23–27 years), with employees serving 1–3 years and guests on day trips. All liability areas (guest safety, food safety, maintenance, competency, obligations) rated strongly agree. Problems encountered: inconsistent enforcement (guests, 24.56%) and guest non-compliance (employees). No significant correlations overall (p>0.05), except strong positive for guest safety (r=0.6311, p=0.01164), emphasizing safety protocols and training for competitiveness. The study concluded that MJ Land Resort meets high operational standards, but legal risks are primarily driven by guest behavior and non-compliance. To address this, the research recommends a framework of shared responsibility through formal check-in briefings, improved hazard signage, and stricter policy enforcement. These proactive measures aim to mitigate liability while simultaneously enhancing the guest experience.
