Abstract

The Las Piñas–Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) is a protected coastal wetland that promotes biodiversity conservation alongside sustainable tourism initiatives. Among its environmental programs are coastal cleanup activities intended to reduce marine debris and encourage visitor participation in environmental stewardship. This study evaluated how respondents assessed the coastal cleanup as an effective sustainable practice at LPPWP and examined selected variables related to awareness, satisfaction, and behavioral intention. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected from fifty (50) respondents using a structured questionnaire with a Likert scale. Convenience sampling was used. Descriptive statistics, including composite mean and ranking, were used to determine how respondents evaluated the coastal cleanup across eight major variables. Results revealed an overall composite mean of 2.53, verbally interpreted as “Agree,” indicating that respondents generally perceived the coastal cleanup as an effective sustainable practice. Among the variables, Visitor Perception of Park Sustainability ranked first (M = 2.61, Agree), followed by Community and Visitor Participation (M = 2.60, Agree). Implementation and Management of Cleanup Activities (M = 2.56, Agree) and Environmental Awareness (M = 2.56, Agree) were also positively rated. Visitor and Behavioral Intention obtained a mean of 2.53 (Agree). However, Educational and Awareness Outcomes (M = 2.47, Disagree), Visitor Satisfaction (M = 2.47, Disagree), and Alignment with Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Standards (M = 2.46, Disagree) received lower evaluations. The findings indicate that while respondents generally agreed that coastal cleanup initiatives contribute to park sustainability and participation, improvements are needed in educational impact, satisfaction levels, and alignment with broader sustainable tourism standards. The study highlights the importance of strengthening structured environmental education and sustainability integration to enhance the effectiveness of conservation-based tourism initiatives at LPPWP.
