Abstract

This study aimed to assess the current condition of the recreational facilities and activities at Wawa Dam by examining visitor demographics, identifying existing problems, evaluating quality and accessibility, and determining the level of tourist satisfaction to propose strategic improvements that will enhance visitor experience and promote sustainable nature-based tourism development. The study employed a descriptive quantitative research design involving 50 conveniently selected visitors of Wawa Dam who responded to a validated survey questionnaire composed of demographic profiling, problem identification, quality and accessibility assessment, and satisfaction measurement, with data analyzed using frequency, percentage distribution, and weighted mean to ensure objective interpretation of results. The findings revealed that although visitors are generally satisfied with the scenic beauty, peaceful environment, and available recreational activities at Wawa Dam, they expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of recreational facilities due to issues such as poor cleanliness, inadequate restrooms and seating, limited accessibility for persons with disabilities, insufficient signage, and lack of variety in facility offerings. The results suggest that while the natural environment remains the primary strength of Wawa Dam as a tourist destination, significant improvements in infrastructure, sanitation, accessibility, maintenance, and activity diversification are necessary to enhance overall visitor satisfaction, encourage repeat visitation, and strengthen the site’s long-term sustainability and competitiveness in nature-based tourism.
