Abstract
The hospitality industry requires competent and skilled workers to maintain service quality and operational standards. In the Philippines, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provides the Housekeeping National Certificate II (NC II) to certify individuals who meet industry-based competency standards. Certification serves as formal recognition of skills and may influence employment opportunities, promotion, and job stability. This study aimed to examine the impact of Housekeeping NC II Certification on the job opportunities of employees at Astoria Plaza Hotel. Specifically, it assessed how certification affects employability, competence, productivity, and career advancement. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design. A non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to select fifty (50) regular employees from the Housekeeping Department of Astoria Plaza Hotel. Respondents were chosen based on their completion of or exposure to the Housekeeping NC II Certification. Data were collected through a validated survey questionnaire consisting of demographic profile and indicators related to employment opportunities, competence, and career advancement. Statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Spearman Rank-Order Correlation were used to analyze and interpret the data. The findings revealed that Housekeeping NC II Certification has a significant positive impact on employees’ job opportunities. Certified employees demonstrated higher levels of competence, improved productivity, and greater confidence in performing housekeeping tasks. The results also showed that certification contributes to better chances of employment, promotion, and regularization. A positive relationship was identified between certification and job advancement indicators, suggesting that NC II enhances employees’ competitiveness in the hospitality industry. The study concluded that Housekeeping NC II Certification plays an important role in strengthening employees’ professional qualifications and career development within the hospitality sector. Certification not only improves technical skills but also increases employment stability and advancement opportunities. It is recommended that hotel management continue to support and encourage employees in obtaining NC II certification to enhance workforce quality and organizational performance.
