Abstract

As the hospitality industry evolves, graduates face a "readiness gap" between academic learning and professional expectations. This study identifies the imperative credentials needed by Hospitality Management graduates to align their skills with industry standards and enhance employability. Using a descriptive quantitative research design, data were collected via an online survey from 50 graduates of Bestlink College of the Philippines (2020–2025) currently working in front office, food and beverage, and housekeeping roles. Purposive sampling ensured respondents had firsthand experience transitioning from school to the workforce. Findings indicate that industry-recognized credentials—specifically TESDA National Certificates, on-the-job training (OJT), and seminar participation—are perceived as highly critical for securing employment. Digital and technical certifications were also noted for increasing competitiveness. However, graduates identified significant hurdles: financial constraints, limited training access, and a perceived misalignment between academic curricula and real-world industry demands. A degree provided an important foundation, but respondents also viewed specialized certifications as valuable for employability. The findings suggest that TESDA, digital, and other industry-recognized credentials may strengthen graduates’ competitiveness. Academic institutions were encouraged to expand industry partnerships, integrate credential-focused training into the curriculum, and provide financial or logistical support for certification.
