Abstract
The study examined the effectiveness of the “Wheel of Sandwich” infographic as an instructional aid in TLE Home Economics for Grade 9 students at Sampaguita High School. It sought to determine whether infographic-based teaching could enhance students’ understanding and engagement compared with traditional methods. The research also analyzed learners’ demographic profiles, compared their pretest and posttest results, and assessed their perceptions of the infographic in terms of inputs, motivation, environment, and innovation. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with 100 Grade 9 students divided equally into control and experimental groups. The control group received traditional instruction, while the experimental group was taught using the Wheel of Sandwich infographic. Purposive sampling was used to select participants and data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire that was expert-validated and tested for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha. Most participants were aged 13–14 years (75%), and 55% were male. The control and experimental groups had similar pretest performance. The experimental group improved by 41.74%, and the control group improved by 38.99%. The independent t-test showed no significant difference between the groups’ posttest results (p = 0.915), while paired t-tests indicated significant improvement within both groups (p = 0.000). Students strongly agreed with the infographic’s inputs (4.37), motivation (4.34), environment (4.38), and innovation (4.22). The Wheel of Sandwich infographic was associated with improvements in comprehension, engagement, and motivation. However, because the posttest difference between the experimental and control groups was not significant, the findings do not establish that the infographic was more effective than conventional instruction. Students described the material as creative, engaging, and supportive of collaboration and active participation. The study recommends using infographics as supplementary aids in practical Home Economics lessons.
