Factors Associated with Data-Security Measure Adoption among Microenterprises Using Digital Payments: Basis for a Proposed TOE-I Barrier Resolution Guide

Abstract
Digital payment systems such as GCash are widely used by microenterprises in the Philippines because of their convenience and transaction speed. However, users remain vulnerable to data-security risks such as fraud, phishing, and unauthorized access. Despite increased use of digital payments, limited research has examined the factors associated with microenterprises' adoption of data-security measures. This study examined the relationship between selected influencing factors and the adoption of data-security measures among microenterprises using GCash in Novaliches, Quezon City. The study used a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design. Thirty (30) microenterprises were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, ranking, weighted mean, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The influencing factors were categorized as technological, organizational, environmental, and individual, and their relationships with the adoption of data-security measures were examined. The results indicated a moderate level of adoption of data-security measures, with microenterprises relying mainly on basic security features provided by digital payment platforms. Pearson's correlation analysis found no statistically significant relationship between the technological, organizational, environmental, and individual factors and the level of data-security measure adoption. The findings indicate that the participating microenterprises used digital payment platforms but had limited adoption of additional data-security measures. The absence of statistically significant relationships means that the selected factors were not shown to be associated with the reported level of adoption in this sample. Explanations involving financial constraints, platform features, or cybersecurity awareness should be presented as possible interpretations unless directly measured. The stated support for the T-O-E framework and Diffusion of Innovation theory also requires clearer linkage to the reported analyses.
