Abstract

Building-security systems increasingly integrate access control, monitoring, alarms, and automated records. This study developed a smart building-security prototype using programmable controllers and centralized data management. The study used experimental prototyping to develop a smart building-security system integrating a Raspberry Pi 5, ESP32, and MongoDB for compartmentalized monitoring, alarm notifications, and time registration. A quantitative-descriptive design and purposive sampling were used to obtain feedback from building administrators, security personnel, and homeowners concerning functionality and reliability. The prototype integrated a Raspberry Pi 5 and ESP32 with RFID access, facial recognition, object detection, alarm notifications, time registration, and backup-power support. The 3D model, subsystem design, and schematics documented the system architecture. Hardware components, including the servo motor, relay, camera, and buzzer, reportedly operated consistently across multiple trials, and respondents provided favorable assessments. The system demonstrates integration of selected monitoring, access-control, alarm, and record-management functions using Raspberry Pi and ESP32 components.
