Abstract

This study examined FILMTASTIC as an instructional tool for developing comprehension of short stories among third-year Filipino majors at Bestlink College of the Philippines. It focused on learners’ understanding of symbolism, theme, and content and considered the role of technology in contemporary literature instruction. A quantitative quasi-experimental design was used. Forty (40) third-year Filipino majors were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and questionnaires. The source Results section states that learners continued to experience difficulty in some aspects of comprehension, particularly theme, and that FILMTASTIC may support analysis and understanding of short stories. The section does not contain the quantitative results, which appear instead in the Discussion section. Most respondents were aged 19–21 years (82.5%) and female (85.5%). Students rated FILMTASTIC favorably for understanding symbolism (mean = 3.72), theme (mean = 3.80), and content (mean = 3.85). Mean comprehension increased from 20 before use of the platform to 24.4 afterward. Reported challenges included difficulty interpreting story content (42.5%) and confusion between written and viewed versions (20%). These findings suggest improved viewing comprehension.
