Abstract

This study examined Lakbay Pilipinas, a geography board game intended to support first-year Social Studies students’ engagement, critical thinking, retention, geographic knowledge, and understanding of Philippine regions. The game linked classroom content with questions, movement, recall, and collaborative play. An experimental design was reported with 26 1st-year BSED Social Studies majors selected through purposive sampling. Participants played Lakbay Pilipinas and completed a survey questionnaire. Mean ratings were 3.57 for engagement, 3.50 for exploration, 3.48 for extension, 3.52 for explanation, and 3.53 for evaluation. Pretest and posttest means were 15.81 and 21.27, respectively, a gain of 5.46 points. The higher posttest mean and favorable ratings suggest that Lakbay Pilipinas supported geography learning and engagement. The game may encourage recall, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. However, no comparison group or complete inferential analysis was reported, so causal-effectiveness claims should be limited.
