Evaluating the Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency of the GrabFoodÐMcDonald's Integration System in Selected Valenzuela City Branches

Abstract
The rapid growth of food delivery platforms has significantly transformed the operational processes of quick-service restaurants. Accordingly, this study examines the operational effectiveness and operational efficiency as perceived by McDonald's employees and GrabFood riders. While Asia accounts for over half of the global market, the expansion of these platforms has increased demand for delivery riders and introduced operational challenges, including order inaccuracies, delayed deliveries, and system inefficiencies, which can reduce reliability and customer satisfaction. The McDonald’s–GrabFood partnership demonstrates strategic digital integration, enhancing convenience, menu accessibility, promotions, and customer engagement. This study focused on operational difficulties in Valenzuela City, particularly order flow, system synchronization, and staff–rider communication, aiming to recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and overall service performance. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed. The study included thirty (30) frontline McDonald’s personnel and thirty (30) GrabFood riders. Purposive sampling was used to select respondents directly involved in the integration system. The study was limited to selected McDonald’s branches in Valenzuela City. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions, weighted mean, standard deviation, and t-test to identify differences in perceptions and operational performance. The demographic profile revealed that most McDonald’s employees were aged 20–24, while most GrabFood riders were aged 25–29. Employees perceived operational effectiveness and efficiency as high, whereas riders reported moderate satisfaction, citing occasional delays, minor system issues, and peak-hour coordination challenges. A significant difference in perceptions between employees and riders was observed. Employees evaluate the system from an internal operational perspective, while riders assess it based on delivery execution and customer-facing experiences. Despite generally positive results, employees reported challenges such as system outages, miscommunication, and order backlogs during peak hours. The study recommends strengthening the GrabFood–McDonald’s integration system by improving technical reliability, real-time synchronization, connectivity, and standardized procedures.
