Abstract

The rapid growth of digital financial technologies has transformed the way businesses conduct transactions and manage financial information. Digital payment platforms have become increasingly important for micro enterprises, particularly in improving transaction efficiency and financial documentation. This study aimed to assess the relationship between digital payment platform usage and the financial management practices of selected micro enterprises in Novaliches, Quezon City, and to provide a basis for the development of a proposed Digital-First Ledger Process. The study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design. Participants were selected through purposive sampling to ensure that they met specific criteria relevant to the objectives of the study. Data were collected using a structured survey questionnaire designed to gather information on the firmographic profile of the respondents, use of digital payment platforms, financial management practices, and challenges encountered in digital payment adoption. The collected data were analyzed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The results of these statistical analysis served as the empirical basis for identifying financial management gaps and for developing the proposed Digital-First Ledger Process for micro enterprises. The results show that 60% of the respondents operate their businesses as sole proprietorships, while the rest belong to other business types. Many respondents reported that they use digital payment platforms in their daily transactions. Most of them agreed that these platforms make payments faster and help them track their income and business transactions more easily. The findings also show that small business owners practice basic financial management activities. The correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between digital payment platform usage and financial management practices. This suggests that businesses that frequently use digital payment platforms tend to have better financial management practices. The study concludes that digital payment platform usage is significantly associated with stronger financial management practices among micro enterprises. The results support the development of a Digital-First Ledger Process that integrates digital payment records into business financial documentation. Implementing such a system may enhance revenue tracking, financial transparency, and operational efficiency among micro businesses.
