Abstract

On-the-Job Training (OJT) serves as an essential component in preparing students for real-world work environments, particularly in government agencies where clerical tasks are essential to daily operations. This study aimed to assess the clerical task challenges faced by on-the-job trainees in a government agency and determine how these challenges affect their performance, efficiency, and professional development. Specifically, it sought to identify the common clerical duties assigned to trainees, and the difficulties they encountered. A descriptive-quantitative research design was employed in this study. Data were gathered from fifty (50) on-the-job trainees through a structured survey questionnaire. The respondents’ demographic profile and their level of challenges in terms of task complexity, workload management, availability of office resources, communication and collaboration, and time management were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking. The findings revealed that trainees experienced moderate challenges in most clerical task areas, particularly in manual documentation, workload demands, and limited office resources. Communication and collaboration with supervisors and staff were generally rated as effective, indicating a supportive work environment. However, errors in manual clerical tasks and time management difficulties were among the most frequently encountered problems. This study contributes to the continuous enhancement of on-the-job training initiatives by offering insights into the particular clerical difficulties faced by trainees in public sector organizations. The results could act as a reference for improving current orientation methods, bolstering supportive oversight, maximizing existing resources, and creating focused training programs to better elevate trainees’ administrative skills and overall job efficacy.
