Abstract
This study examined the relationship between job-related stress and employee productivity among rank-and-file workers at PAGASA Steel Works Inc.. Specifically, it identified the respondents’ demographic profile, assessed their level of job-related stress in terms of workload, role ambiguity, work environment, and interpersonal relationships, and determined their level of productivity in terms of task performance and efficiency. The study also tested whether a significant relationship exists between job-related stress and productivity. A quantitative descriptive-correlational research design was utilized. Data were gathered through a structured survey questionnaire administered to selected rank-and-file employees. Statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson correlation were used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that employees generally experienced a moderate level of job-related stress. Workload and role-related concerns were among the primary sources of stress, while workplace relationships were rated more positively. In terms of productivity, respondents demonstrated a satisfactory to high level of task performance, indicating that they were able to complete assigned duties accurately and efficiently despite workplace pressures. However, correlation analysis showed a statistically significant moderate negative relationship between job-related stress and productivity (r = -0.48, p < 0.05). This indicates that as job-related stress increases, employee productivity tends to decrease. The results suggest that while employees are capable of maintaining acceptable performance levels, prolonged or unmanaged stress may negatively affect overall productivity. The study highlights the importance of implementing stress management strategies, workload balancing, and supportive organizational policies to sustain employee performance. These findings may serve as a basis for developing programs aimed at improving employee well-being and organizational effectiveness.
