Abstract

Poor communities in Bulacan undergoing relocation need practical, space-efficient, and sustainable housing solutions. In El Camino, Meycauayan, families face challenges such as limited land, structural safety risks, poor ventilation, and long-term livability issues. Existing units often fail to maximize space while ensuring comfort and durability. This study proposes a Miniature Semi-Circular House Design to optimize land use, improve structural stability, and enhance natural lighting and airflow. The semi-circular form distributes loads efficiently, resists environmental forces, and creates a functional, modern living space. The design aims to provide a cost-effective, disaster-resilient, and comfortable housing solution. A quantitative, developmental, and descriptive research design was used, based on sustainable architecture and structural efficiency. Ten respondents—five Civil Engineers and five Architects—were purposively selected for technical evaluation. Quantitative data assessed acceptability, feasibility, safety, cost-efficiency, and functionality. The developmental approach guided planning, drafting, modeling, and refinement of the prototype, incorporating expert feedback for structural stability and construction practicality. The descriptive design assessed current housing conditions to determine how the proposed structure could address overcrowding, ventilation, safety, and spatial efficiency. Findings showed the Miniature Semi-Circular House Design has strong potential as a sustainable relocation solution. Evaluators highlighted its structural stability, efficient land use, improved airflow, and aesthetic appeal. The curved form distributes loads better than rectangular units. Minor issues, including material costs and curved roofing construction, were resolved through design adjustments and careful material selection to maintain affordability. Implementing this design at El Camino, Meycauayan, can improve relocation housing conditions. Expert feedback confirmed its practicality, safety, and sustainability. Construction and budgeting challenges were addressed through planning and structural modifications. Regular maintenance and supervision are recommended. Overall, the Miniature Semi-Circular House Design offers a resilient, space-efficient, and community-centered solution for safer, sustainable relocation developments.
