Abstract

The goal of this research was to identify specific fire safety needs and evaluate the effectiveness of the Fire Safety Awareness Program in Barangay Gulod, Quezon City. By promoting fire safety practices, residents are encouraged to minimize risks, respond effectively during emergencies, and create a safer environment for the community. The evaluation focused on program implementation, fire safety equipment, and training backgrounds as indicators of preparedness, showing how these contribute to improving knowledge and strengthening awareness against fire hazards. The study used a quantitative descriptive design to evaluate the fire-safety awareness program in Barangay Gulod, Quezon City. Structured surveys measured community awareness of fire safety, and the data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, and means to describe the community’s level of preparedness. The findings reveal several challenges that limit the effectiveness of fire safety awareness programs in Barangay Gulod, Quezon City. The most urgent issue is the difficulty faced by BFP personnel and first responders in reaching residential areas during fire incidents due to overcrowding and narrow lanes, which delays emergency response. Some concerns include the lack of fire safety equipment, the insufficient number of firefighters, and household infrastructure that may not adequately protect against fire threats. Traditional practices, limited participation in programs, restricted access to water sources, and the absence of regular followup further weaken preparedness. The study concluded that fire-safety awareness programs in Barangay Gulod, Quezon City strengthened community preparedness by teaching residents how to prevent fires, respond during emergencies, and remain safe. Information was disseminated through meetings, posters, and flyers using simple language and local dialects to explain safety rules, evacuation routes, and emergency hotlines. The programs addressed common fire causes, including unsafe electrical wiring, improper appliance use, and risky traditional practices, and promoted safer household practices. The study also highlighted the importance of adequate water supplies and facilities, identifying water-source mapping and fire-hydrant installation as essential measures for faster and more effective emergency response.
