Abstract

The aim of the present research is to assess the impact of Barangay Youth Programs on reducing juvenile delinquency in Southville 8C, Barangay San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal, by analyzing respondents’ assessments in terms of sports and recreational programs, educational support services, and anti-drug awareness campaigns. The research employs a descriptive methodology and seeks to explore whether the effectiveness of Barangay youth programs and associated organizations in preventing juvenile delinquency has seen improvement over the years. The respondents were divided into three groups the first group included 40 youth participants from Barangay San Isidro Rodriguez Rizal the second group comprised five (5) Barangay officials and the third group consisted of five (5) Sangguniang Kabataan. The survey questionnaire was used to collect the data. The findings will provide insights into the strengths and areas for improvement of current youth programs and inform strategies for preventing juvenile delinquency within the community. Most respondents were between 15 and 20 years old representing 52% of the sample analysis. In addition to 52% of the population the majority were male and 60% lived in Barangay San Isidro Rodriguez Rizal for ten (10) years and above. According to the respondents assessments the educational support services provided by the barangay youth programs were effective in helping the youth stay in school and improve their academic performance with the majority of respondents assigning a mean score of 3.42 interpreted as Very Effective. Respondents also stated that sports and recreational programs in the barangay are inclusive of all youth, regardless of gender or background, giving a mean rating of 3.50, interpreted as “Very Effective.” Lastly, the information about the dangers of drug use being effectively communicated to youth was highly commended, receiving a mean rating of 3.42, also interpreted as “Very Effective”. In conclusion, the researchers recommend the continuous improvement and expansion of youth programs, increased funding and resources, regular training of youth facilitators, and stronger collaboration among barangay officials, SK officials, schools, and community organizations. These measures will help sustain and further enhance the effectiveness of barangay youth programs in preventing juvenile delinquency and promoting the overall well-being of the youth in the community.
