Abstract

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), strengthened under Republic Act 10742, promotes youth participation in governance and crime prevention. This study assessed the role of the SK in implementing crime prevention programs in Barangay 187, Tala by examining program effectiveness, respondent profiles, challenges, and differences in assessments. A descriptive quantitative design was used. Eighty respondents (8 SK officials, 11 barangay officials, 61 residents) were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a self-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and the Kruskal–Wallis H test at 0.05 significance level. The SK is active in implementing crime prevention programs, though improvements are needed. Most respondents were 18–25 years old, female, single, and high school graduates. Strategic planning and sports activities were the highest-rated practices, while youth consultation, patrol participation, and formal feedback sessions ranked lowest. No significant differences were found in assessments (p > 0.05). Major challenges were lack of training (43.75%), limited youth participation (35%), and budget constraints (33.75%). The SK demonstrates commitment to crime prevention, particularly in planning and coordination. However, stronger youth consultation, community engagement, and evaluation systems are needed to improve program effectiveness and sustainability.
