Abstract

This study examined the impact of police presence during dawn and early morning hours in Barangay Fairview, Quezon City. Crime incidents may fluctuate during these hours, yet limited research has focused on how police visibility relates to crime patterns and public safety during this period. The study assessed how police deployment influenced crime occurrence, community perceptions of safety, and crime-prevention efforts. By considering police and resident perspectives, the research aimed to provide evidence-based recommendations for improving early-morning patrol strategies, resource allocation, and public-safety initiatives. The study used a quantitative descriptive design and a structured survey questionnaire. A total of 50 respondents participated: 10 police officers and 40 residents of Barangay Fairview. Purposive sampling was used to select respondents with relevant knowledge of dawn patrol operations. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, ranking, and the t-test. A four-point Likert scale measured perceptions of community relations, engagement, and police resources. Findings revealed that most respondents were middle-aged, married, and had at least secondary education. Overall results showed strong agreement that police presence during dawn hours positively affects community relations, engagement, and resource utilization. The highest ratings were given to mutual trust, professionalism, and crime prevention effectiveness. However, manpower shortages and limited resources were identified as major challenges. Statistical analysis showed no significant differences in perceptions when grouped according to age, sex, education, or civil status. The study concludes that police visibility during dawn and early morning hours contributes positively to public safety and community trust in Barangay Fairview. Strong collaboration between police and residents enhances crime prevention efforts. However, improvements in manpower allocation, communication systems, and resource distribution are necessary. Proposed programs focusing on enhanced visibility, community partnership, surveillance systems, and officer capacity-building may further strengthen early morning police operations and promote a safer community.
