Abstract

This study examines the role of the Barangay Justice System in addressing community violence in Barangay Payatas B, located in Quezon City, Philippines. The research focuses on the current status of the BJS, its dispute resolution procedures, and its effectiveness in managing community-related conflicts. Through restorative justice practices, the system encourages open communication between conflicting parties and promotes mutually acceptable solutions. The study used a quantitative research design to evaluate the role of the Barangay Justice System in handling community violence in Barangay Payatas B, Quezon City. A total of 50 respondents participated: 10 barangay personnel and 40 barangay residents. A sampling technique was used to select the respondents. The Barangay Justice System effectively resolves conflicts in a way that satisfies both parties” with frequency of 2.97 or interpreted as “Agree” while the lowest indicators stated “. The decisions made by the Barangay Justice System are fair and unbiased” with frequency of 2.9 or interpreted as Agree. The overall weighted mean of all indicators was 2.91 which were interpreted as “Agree” by the respondents. The highest rank in fairness “The Barangay official is impartial when resolving dispute”with frequency of 3.03 or interpreted as “Agree” while the lowest indicators stated “The Barangay Justice System applies the same rules to everyone without special treatment” with frequency of 2.9 or interpreted as Disagree. The overall weighted mean of all indicators was 2.96 which were interpreted as “Agree” by the respondents. He highest rank Community trust ‘I feel safe when I open a concern in our barangay” with frequency of 3.05 or interpreted as “Agree” while the lowest indicators stated “. The Barangay justice system is fair and not bias” with frequency of 2.9 or interpreted as Disagree. The overall weighted mean of all indicators was 3.04 which were interpreted as “Agree” by the respondents. The findings suggest that the Barangay Justice System in Barangay Payatas B is generally viewed as effective, fair, and trusted by the community. Respondents agreed that the system successfully resolves conflicts and allows residents to express their concerns in a safe environment. This supports the idea that the Barangay Justice System contributes to maintaining peace and order at the community level while reducing the workload of formal courts.
