Abstract

In the digital era, managing personal data is essential for car insurance companies, as digital systems raise privacy, security, and ethical concerns. Data protection is key to trust and long-term relationships. According to FangBin Zhu’s (2022) Personal Information Leakage Path Model, breaches can result from unauthorized access, illegal sharing, technological flaws, and weak regulation. Despite policies, unclear consent and potential data misuse make evaluating customer perceptions of privacy and trust important. This study used a descriptive-quantitative design to assess thirty (30) car owners’ perceptions and trust regarding data privacy practices at Jojo Reyes Car Insurance Company in Novaliches, Quezon City, using purposive sampling and a structured, validated questionnaire covering demographics, privacy adherence, trust, and challenges. Responses were measured with a Likert scale, analyzed through weighted means, frequency distributions, percentages, and Pearson’s correlation at a 0.05 significance level, while ethical considerations such as voluntary participation and confidentiality were strictly observed. Most respondents were male (70%), aged 36–45 (40%), and held Third Party Liability insurance (97%). They rated the company highly for clear information, secure data handling, and respect for data-sharing decisions, though responsiveness to concerns was slightly lower. Key challenges included unclear consent (30%), fear of misuse (23%), and weak regulation (23%). Perceived privacy adherence was significantly linked to trust (p = 0.0374). The study highlights data privacy as key to customer trust in car insurance. Respondents trusted the company’s secure and ethical practices, though consent and misuse concerns remain. Enhancing transparency and responsiveness can further strengthen trust, showing that privacy protection is both a regulatory and strategic priority.
