Abstract

This research, entitled “The Effectiveness of Law Enforcement Strategies in Reducing Street Gang Activities in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City,” aimed to systematically evaluate the impact of various policing and community-based initiatives. It specifically examined the respondents’ demographic profiles and their professional evaluation of four primary strategic components: intensified police visibility and presence; improved intelligence gathering and community reporting systems; arrest and prosecution of gang members; and youth-focused intervention and prevention programs. The study also explored whether significant differences existed in the respondents’ assessments when grouped according to their profiles, identified the challenges encountered during strategy implementation, and proposed measures to improve overall effectiveness. The researchers employed a descriptive-quantitative research design to obtain organized and measurable data. A total of 50 purposively selected respondents participated in the study, chosen based on their relevance and expertise. These included three (3) police officials, seven (7) barangay officials, and forty (40) residents of Barangay Gulod. Data were gathered through a validated, researcher-developed survey questionnaire and analyzed using statistical tools such as frequency and percentage distribution, weighted mean, and F-test (ANOVA) to determine comparative differences. The results indicated that the majority of respondents were male, aged 18 to 25 years old, and college graduates. Overall, the law enforcement strategies were rated as “Very Effective,” particularly in relation to police visibility and community-based reporting mechanisms. Nonetheless, ongoing challenges such as insufficient manpower and limited cooperation from certain community members were identified. Statistical findings showed no significant differences in the assessments when respondents were grouped according to profile, reflecting a consistent perception across different sectors. Based on these findings, a comprehensive action plan was formulated to further enhance collaboration among the Philippine National Police, barangay officials, and community members. The study concludes that although current strategies are highly effective, sustained youth-centered initiatives and stronger legal enforcement efforts remain essential for achieving long-term reductions in street gang activities in the area.
