Abstract
This study entitled Developing a Barangay-Based Youth Gang Involvement Prevention Program in Barangay 171, North Caloocan City: A Proposal aims to assess community perspectives on youth gang involvement and to develop a localized prevention program tailored to the needs of Barangay 171, Caloocan. The primary purpose of the study is to assess community perceptions regarding its causes, risk factors, and possible preventive measures at the barangay level and proposed barangay-based strategies specifically youth mentorship, recreational activities, life skills training, parenting workshops, and community engagement in preventing youth gang involvement. The study employed a quantitative descriptive research design. A total of forty-five (45) respondents, composed of parents or guardians, social workers, and barangay officials, were selected using random sampling. Data were collected through a self-made, validated survey questionnaire. Statistical tools such as frequency distribution, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking were used to analyze the data. Results revealed that respondents strongly agree on the effectiveness of barangay-based prevention strategies, with composite weighted means ranging from 3.67 to 3.93, interpreted as “Strongly Agree.” Recreational activities and life skills training were identified as top priorities in reducing gang involvement. Findings also indicate strong community support for parenting workshops and youth mentorship programs as protective factors against delinquency. The study concludes that a structured, community-driven prevention program anchored in mentor ship, skills development, and active stakeholder collaboration can significantly contribute to reducing youth gang involvement. The findings imply that strengthening barangay-level interventions, consistent with national youth protection policies, can foster youth empowerment, enhance community resilience, and promote long-term public safety in Barangay 171.
