Abstract

This study examines the critical role of community-based initiatives in addressing adolescent delinquency in Quezon City, particularly in Barangay Batasan Hills. As a densely populated community facing significant youth-related challenges, the barangay implements programs aimed at guiding adolescents away from delinquent behavior and toward positive development. Anchored in Social Control Theory, the study highlights the importance of strong social bonds, community engagement, and structured activities in fostering discipline, trust, and pro-social behavior among the youth. Barangay-led initiatives are viewed as catalysts for empowerment, skill development, and constructive social interaction. The research employed a quantitative descriptive design to assess the effectiveness of community-based programs in terms of community involvement, implementation, and consistency. Purposive sampling was used to select nine (9) barangay officials and thirty (30) juveniles from Barangay Batasan Hills as respondents. Data were gathered to evaluate perceptions of program impact, leadership involvement, participation levels, and sustainability. Findings revealed that community-based initiatives significantly reduce adolescent delinquency by providing meaningful activities, mentorship, and positive peer engagement. Programs that were consistently implemented and actively supported by barangay leaders and community members demonstrated greater effectiveness in improving youth behavior and lowering recidivism. However, challenges such as limited resources, inconsistent participation, and sustainability concerns were identified as barriers to long-term success. The study concludes that strengthening community collaboration, ensuring program continuity, and enhancing family support systems are essential to sustaining positive outcomes. The findings provide a foundation for improving and developing responsive, sustainable youth-centered interventions in similar communities.
