Abstract

Crime prevention remains a continuing concern in many urban communities, particularly at the barangay level where residents directly experience issues related to safety and security. One widely implemented community-based strategy is the Neighborhood Watch Program, which promotes cooperation among residents, barangay officials, and law enforcement authorities. In this context, the present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the Neighborhood Watch Program in Barangay San Agustin, Quezon City. Specifically, it examined the program’s contribution to reducing crime incidents, improving safety and security, and strengthening community cooperation. The study employed a quantitative research design using a descriptive-correlational approach. A total of sixty (60) respondents participated in the study, consisting of barangay officials, Neighborhood Watch members, and community residents. Data were gathered through a validated researcher-made questionnaire. Statistical tools such as frequency, percentage distribution, weighted mean, ranking, and F-test were utilized to analyze the data and evaluate the perceived effectiveness of the program. The findings show that respondents generally consider the Neighborhood Watch Program effective, noting its role in deterring crime, improving safety and security, and strengthening community cooperation through better coordination, increased visibility, and active resident participation. Despite positive feedback, respondents identified key challenges such as limited training, coordination issues, inconsistent monitoring, insufficient resources, and low community awareness. These concerns indicate the need for improvements to ensure the program’s effectiveness and sustainability, while reaffirming its important role in promoting community safety.
