Abstract

The Barangay Public Safety Officer (BPSO), or barangay tanod, serves as the frontline of peace and order in the community, enforcing laws and responding to local security concerns as mandated by the Local Government Code of 1991 (RA 7160). The Philippine National Police (PNP), as the national law enforcement agency under RA 6975 and RA 8551, complements this role by maintaining public safety and preventing crime nationwide. In Barangay 164, Caloocan City, effective collaboration between BPSOs and the PNP is essential to address challenges such as petty crimes, illegal drugs, and community disputes, ensuring stronger law enforcement, better crime prevention, and increased community trust. This research utilized a quantitative method specifically descriptive research design to assess the Collaboration of Barangay Public Safety Officers with Philippine National Police in patrolling and maintaining peace and order in Barangay 164, Caloocan City. In terms of coordination, community support, and shared resources. The respondents of this study are selected from Barangay 164, Caloocan City. They include 20 community residents, 15 police officers, and 15 Barangay Public Safety Officers who are directly involved in emergency response and public safety. A total of 50 respondents. Researchers utilized the purposive sampling technique to be able to determine the number of respondents needed for the study. This study utilized a self-made survey questionnaire to gather data. Most respondents were aged 34–50, male, married, and college graduates. The collaboration of Barangay Public Safety Officers with the Philippine National Police in maintaining peace and order was rated highly, with coordination, community support, and shared resources all interpreted as “Strongly Agree.” No significant differences were found in the respondents’ assessments of coordination (p > 0.05), indicating consistent perceptions of effective collaboration. The Barangay Public Safety Officers demonstrate strong collaboration with the Philippine National Police in maintaining peace and order, particularly in coordination, community support, and sharing of resources. Respondents consistently rated these efforts highly, indicating effective partnership and engagement. However, challenges such as low financial support and delayed response to incidents highlight areas for improvement to further strengthen the collaboration and enhance overall community safety.
