Abstract

Education is a powerful tool for achieving a successful life. However, returning to college after an extended academic break can pose various challenges for many students, particularly in terms of skills and knowledge stagnation, adjustments to a new environment, and educational gaps. Reinforcing prior knowledge and skills that have not been used for a significant period can be difficult and may impact the students’ motivation and overall academic success. This study employed a quantitative correlational research design to examine the relationship between academic motivation and reintegration challenges among students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. Purposive sampling was used to select the participants. Data were gathered through a systematic self-developed questionnaire validated by a psychometrician, and responses were analyzed using statistical tools to determine the relationship between the two variables. Results show that reintegration challenges among returnees were rarely experienced across academic, skill, and time management areas. Respondents showed positive academic motivation, supported by good adjustment, clear goals, and strong social support. Greater reintegration challenges are linked to stronger academic motivation. The findings reveal that there is a significant relationship existing between academic motivation and reintegration challenges among college returnees. The researchers created an intervention, which is a website called Building your Comeback Path that helps college returnees deal with reintegration challenges and improve their academic motivation.
