Abstract

Barangay Public Safety Officers play a crucial role in our society by keeping people safe and secure by enforcing local laws within the community, especially at Barangay Project 6. Furthermore, while putting peace and order into places, especially in the community's most urbanized areas, they faced a lot of difficulties in their daily operations. The goal of this study is to find out what kinds of challenges the Barangay Public Safety Officer encounters that make it less effective in the community. The respondents split into ten (10) Barangay Councils, twenty-five (25) Barangay Public Safety Officers, and forty-five (45) residents of the community, with an overall eighty (80) respondents from Barangay Project 6, Quezon City. Researchers will utilize the purposive sampling technique to be able to determine the number of the respondents needed for the study. This non-probability sampling technique is chosen to allow the researcher to focus on a specific population that is most relevant to the objectives of this study. The researchers will personally approach and ask permission before conducting the survey from the Barangay Captain and Council, Barangay Public Safety Officer, and residents of Barangay Project 6, Quezon City. The findings revealed the "difficulty covering all areas of the barangay due to limited manpower" was the highest on the problem encountered. Furthermore, the respondents' assessment of the safety and operational difficulties faced by the Barangay Public Safety Officer and its impact on the community of Barangay Project 6, Quezon City, in terms of insufficient equipment, staffing, and assisting, was majorly agreed upon as one of the operational difficulties that could affect the duty and responsibilities of the Barangay Public Safety Officer. The study concludes that through the safety and security operational difficulties faced by the Barangay Public Safety Officer of the Barangay Project 6, Quezon City, it recommends addressing the problem in terms of implementing the adoption of purok-based volunteer watch groups, acquiring and improving the budget to cover up the insufficient equipment, conducting training and seminars for the BPSO personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge, and implementing the recruitment process for additional personnel to cover up the shortage of personnel.
