Abstract

Community policing is a collaborative approach that strengthens partnerships among police authorities, local government units, and community members to maintain peace and order. This study assessed the effectiveness of community policing in Barangay San Bartolome, Novaliches, Quezon City. It examined its role in promoting public safety, crime prevention, and community participation, determined differences in respondents’ perceptions, and identified implementation challenges as a basis for program enhancement. A descriptive research design was used. Respondents included barangay functionaries, law enforcement personnel, and community members. Data were gathered through a structured and validated questionnaire measuring effectiveness in law enforcement collaboration, school-based policing, and community-based policing. Frequency distribution and weighted mean described the data, while Two-Way ANOVA tested significant differences in perceptions. Community policing was generally rated as highly effective. Community members gave higher ratings than barangay functionaries and law enforcement personnel. ANOVA results showed significant differences among respondent groups, indicating variations in perceptions based on role. Key challenges included limited manpower, inadequate resources, and coordination issues. The findings indicate that while community policing in Barangay San Bartolome is effective, continuous improvements are necessary to address existing challenges. Strengthening coordination, increasing community engagement, and improving resource allocation are recommended to enhance its implementation at the barangay level.
