Abstract

Gang-related violence remains a concern in Barangay Canumay West, Valenzuela City. Despite preventive measures such as patrols, police coordination, and community programs, incidents persist. This study evaluated the effectiveness of these measures and examined perception differences among officials, police, and residents to support evidence-based crime prevention and long-term public safety. This study used a quantitative descriptive design to assess the effectiveness of barangay patrol programs against gang-related violence. Data were gathered through surveys covering preventive measures, security measures, community measures, and challenges. Respondents included barangay officials, police officers, and residents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using frequencies, weighted means, and ANOVA. Findings showed measurable effectiveness and generally consistent perceptions among groups. The study found that preventive measures, visible patrols, police collaboration, and monitoring of gang-prone areas were seen as effective in reducing violence. Security measures were also fairly effective, though limited resources and inconsistent community participation posed challenges. Community initiatives, including youth programs and information sharing, were rated highly, but officials and police viewed them more favorably than residents, reflecting differences in engagement and awareness. The study concludes that barangay patrol programs are effective in addressing gang-related violence. Preventive and security measures are consistently viewed positively by officials, police, and residents, reflecting shared understanding and coordination. However, differences in perceptions of community measures highlight the need for stronger engagement and transparency. Despite resource and manpower challenges, continued support, collaboration, and program improvement are essential to sustain peace and order.
