Abstract

Heavy traffic along Susano Road in Barangay San Agustin, Quezon City affects students of Bestlink College of the Philippines, particularly during peak commuting periods. Reported contributing conditions included high traffic volume, flooding during heavy rain, potholes and damaged roads, vehicle breakdowns, overtaking, and counterflowing vehicles. This study examined the effects of heavy traffic on criminology students who regularly commute through the area. The study used a quantitative research design. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire administered to 100 criminology students of Bestlink College of the Philippines. Respondents strongly agreed that long travel times increased fatigue during school days (3.56), that heavy traffic frequently caused late arrival at school (3.39), and that concern about being late increased stress (3.33). The study recommended further research incorporating socioeconomic factors, transportation availability, commuting distance, and mental health conditions. The findings indicate that heavy traffic along Susano Road was associated with fatigue, tardiness, and increased stress among the surveyed students. Addressing road damage, flooding, traffic obstruction, and unsafe driving practices may help reduce these commuting difficulties.
